Municipal strike affects vehicle registrations
All service centres in Gauteng were closed during the last week of July due to the municipal strike, and this had a marked effect on vehicle registrations. Only 32 578 such transactions were recorded on the National Traffic Information System (eNaTIS) in the week of 27 to 31 July. This is a decrease of 44% compared to the weekly average (58 240) recorded in the preceding three weeks. ppp_itech_clp_computersecurity_s_99.pngThe effect of the strike notwithstanding, the total transaction count rose by 7.17% in July 2009 as compared to the previous month. July also saw the introduction of vehicle licence renewals at participating post offices in Gauteng (more information here).

New vehicle registrations showed a month-on-month decrease of 4.3% and a substantial year-on year decrease of 40.08%. Used vehicle registrations remained fairly constant with a slight month-on-month decrease of 0.3% and a year-on-year decrease of 7.4%.
