eNaTIS transaction statistics for August 2007 |

As has been the case each month since the launch of the National Traffic Information System (eNaTIS) in April this year, a massive number of transactions were performed nationally on the system in August. The 12,980,790 transactions performed included 65,028 learner’s licence authorisations, 191,664 driving licence card orders, 90,258 vehicle record introductions, 303,924 vehicle registrations and 848,771 vehicle licensing transactions.

Driving licence card’s security beyond reproach |

In a recent media report (‘New licence plate system under fire’, Business Day, 27 August 2007) the Democratic Alliance’s Gauteng transport spokesperson, James Swart, is quoted as saying that the credit-card-type driving licence (which replaced the previous paper-based system) has failed to take illegal drivers off the road and has therefore brought no tangible benefit. The truth of the matter is that the card has proved to be a highly successful tool used in traffic law enforcement.
