Public sector strike PDF Print E-mail

The on-going public sector strike has affected a lot of sectors of our economy.  The eNaTIS environment was not spared this fate, although it seems limited to a short period of time.

The effect of the strike was for a short period of time

The effect of the strike can be seen when one analyses the transaction statistics for user transactions, which
excludes the transactions done through system interfaces.  The public sector strike started in earnest on Wednesday 13 June 2007.  Prior to the commencement of the strike, the average number of user transactions per week day for the period 1 June to 12 June 2007 was 371,000.  During the first three days of the strike, from 13 to 15 June 2007, the average number of user transactions declined to 322,000 per week day.

However, it seems that the eNaTIS activity was largely back to normal by Monday 18 June 2007.  From Monday 18 June to Wednesday 20 June an average of 396,000 user transactionsper day were performed.  The highest number of user transactions for the month of June was performed on Wednesday 20 June 2007 with a total of 406,754

New look for eNaTIS Website PDF Print E-mail

We have listened to comments made by some of our website visitors that the website template is too "standard" and boring.  On Friday 8 June 2007 the website template was replaced, giving the pages a new look.

We are still using JOOMLA, which is an open source content management system

It is a deliberate choice to use open source software in line with South African Government policy

The website will be upgraded further in the next few weeks and months and we also plan to start with a regular newsletter to our registered users.  Several items will be added to the website giving background and technical information about eNaTIS.

Internet transactions to launch soon

Internet and ATM (automated teller machine) transactions will be launched in the next few months.  You will always find the most recent updates on this topic on this website.

Please take time to participate in our website polls - your view is important to us.

eNaTIS security PDF Print E-mail

cam1 Certain newspapers have created publicity in respect of a network audit conducted by the Auditor General on the NaTIS and might have left the impression that eNaTIS security is full of holes.  This network audit was carried out on the live environment of the old NaTIS system that has subsequently been switched off.  The network audit was conducted almost a year before the eNaTIS went live.  Insofar this audit covers the eNaTIS, it was carried out on the development environment of the eNaTIS.

No blank passwords are allowed

The eNaTIS cannot be accessed unless a valid user ID and password combination is provided from an authorised work station.  In addition, all users have to sign a confidentiality agreement prior to being issued with login credentials on the eNaTIS.  Security access is not controlled from the work station side and the security policy and passwords used to gain access to the remote work station is irrelevant in gaining access to eNaTIS.  eNaTIS runs on central architecture and access to the system is controlled centrally by making use amongst others of data encryption, security certificates, firewalls, password control and detailed transaction audit trails on a user level.
