18 Transactions per second PDF Print E-mail

The eNaTIS user community has taken advantage of the fact that eNaTIS is now operating fast and that a 100% availability has been achieved since 8 May 2007.

Although the system operates for extended hours (from 6am to 9pm weekdays and 6am to 2pm on Saturdays), the highest volume of transactions per day is experienced between 8am and 4pm.  An average of more than 1000 transactions per minute, or more than 18 transactions every second is experienced during the peak business hours.

The external interfaces operates on a 24 hour basis.  This includes interfaces from the SAPS, vehicle manufacturers, importers and builders and the driving licence card production facility.  The actual time it takes the eNaTIS to process every transaction is recorded.  Only 0.2 percent of transactions currently takes more than one minute to process.  In most cases, transactions are processed within 9 seconds, even during peak hours.

Sustained good performance PDF Print E-mail

Sustained stability and an overall acceptable transaction speed have been recorded since Tuesday 8 May 2007.  The transactions per day seem to move around the 650,000 average.  Since 8am on Tuesday 8 May the system has not been down resulting in 100% availability.  On Saturday 12 May by 9:45 more than 80,000 transactions have been processed for the day.

Feedback from individual sites and from provincial authorities is that the system is performing at acceptable levels.  In some cases the backlog has already been eliminated with no sign of long queues anymore and with extended working hours being introduced at many service centres, a positive outlook for the public can be predicted.

Transaction processing times are recorded on eNaTIS for every individual transaction.   On Friday 11 May 2007 an analysis of processing times for vehicle registration transactions showed that the bulk of transactions were completed within 9 seconds and further optimisation measures have been deployed in the live environment during Friday night.

eNaTIS transactions surge PDF Print E-mail

The eNaTIS went live on 13 April countrywide and since then capacity constraints had been identified.  During the weekend of 5 and 6 May 2007 server upgrades and other interventions were performed on the eNaTIS data centre to increase capacity.  It could not be completed during the weekend and the system was not available for transactions on Monday 7 May 2007.  The system availability before these interventions was 93%.

Interventions successful

These interventions proved to be highly successful.  Before the interventions an average 400,000 transactions were performed per day on the eNaTIS.  After the interventions 598,000 and 687,000 transactions were performed on 8 May and 9 May 2007 respectively.  A 100% availability has been achieved and the system has not been down at any stage.  A lot of month-end procedures were performed by service centres and the eNaTIS handled the additional load well and all system components operated in a very stable manner.
