Traffic Circles are the future - 2008/03/27 23:51 Dept of transport should consider replacing traffic lights with circles.
1 Reduce fuel wasted at red lights
2 Keep the traffic flowing
3 Reduce smash and grab and Hijacks
4 Reduce electricity consumbtion
5 Reduce maintenance
6 Traffic circles will still work when the power is out
This is the future wake up City Manager

Re:Traffic Circles are the future - 2008/03/28 22:38 Agree, nice set of advantages. Pity our drivers do not know how to use it (especially if it has multiple lanes in the circle) and it needs a larger area. Not within eNaTIS scope, though.

Re:Traffic Circles are the future - 2008/06/19 19:23 Agreed! Most people are not sure on how to use the circles. Can someone please explain again.. when is it my turn, do I only have to concider cars on my right?

Re:Traffic Circles are the future - 2008/06/20 19:17 The K53 manual's module 45 requires that, at a (full-size) roundabout,
- the driver yield to traffic / pedestrians from the right, unless instructed otherwise by a road sign (e.g. right-of-way) or signal (green traffic light)
- the driver activate the turning signal (left) before entering the circle if the intention is to leave the circle at its first exit
- If intending the leave the circle at a subsequent exit, activate the turning signal (left) in good time prior to such exit. Thus, if you activated the turning signal (left) you shall exit the circle at the next opportunity.

In the case of mini-circles, the turning signal indicating your intended direction of travel, shall be activated before the mini-circle is entered. Thus, travelling straight does not require a signal while turning left or right requires signalling before entering the circle. Right of way shall be given to the vehicle that crosses the yield line first.

Safe driving!
