 Renew new ID drivers licence - 2007/03/23 12:11 I am currently working overseas (Australia) but will be returning to SA at the end of the year. I have got one of the ID drivers licences but it expired 26/5/2006. Is it possible to renew the licence from overseas and get a new one? If not, what do I need to do on my return to SA to renew the licence?

I need to renew my driver’s license, some questions.

1. Can I renew it on a Saturday?

2. What are the hours the renewal location are open.

3. What time frame can I expect to 1st apply for the renewal. HRS???

B. I lost my ID waiting for a new one… will my Passport be fine for identification.
C. How much is the Card issue fee?

I like your way of thinking and sincerely hope that someone will be able to answer you because the licence does not expire only the card as it is your eyesight might deteriorate , your features change and you might have become unfit to drive these are the reasons for renewal.

Re:Renew new ID drivers licence - 2007/11/02 04:25 Hi IJ, I have a similar problem, also working overseas. I managed to get back to SA in 2005, renewed my licence, but then have not been back since. The telephone number for Verulam, KZN, does not exist any more, so who knows where my licence is - a mailing option was not available. Does anyone know of an email/telephone no that I could contact to find out more about unclaimed licences - which is what mine will be labeled as.

Else, if you leave the reference number of any document issued by the system to you (e.g. the Lic. No. of your old driving licence card or the receipt number when you ordered a new card), we can possibly trace the current status of your card.

Hi Geoff
The card licence if not collected within 120 days of production, it is destroyed as prescribed by legislation. You will have to renew your driving licence again when you return.This can be done at any DLTC. All
that will be required is the eye test and payment for the processing of your application.
