Registering an Opel Manta 1972 Model - 2008/06/04 02:50
Good day,
I'm currently struggling to register my boyfriend's 1972 Opel Manta.
The car was a gift of his grandfather that sadly passed away this year. He had the car since 2003. However no official documentation was ever given to him, except a personal letter stating that the car was a gift to his grandson. My boyfriend.
When he went to register the car in Carolina, Mpumalanga, they could never find any official documentation that the car ever existed. Not the enjin or chassis number. He was then told that he had to register the car as a rebuilt.
He got the police clearance and the got the car weighed. He kept all the necessary invoices and slips for work and parts for the car.
He sent all the necessary info to obtain a certificate to proceed with registering the car, which was approved and a certificate was received. This was done in 2006.
Unfortunately the certificate was lost, while he was working in George, Western Cape.
I'm trying now to first obtain a duplicate of the certificate but can't find someone to direct me in the correct direction. I stay in Randburg, Gauteng and the person behind the desk at the Randburg Licensing Dept told me because the certificate was issued in Mpumalanga he can't help me.
I would like to register the vehicle on behalf of my boyfriend in the Gauteng Province as my boyfriend doesn't have the time to do it in George. The vehicle is still at his mother's house in Carolina.
If you could please assist me in telling me where I can obtain a duplicate of the lost certificate, what documents I need to fill in and where I must hand them to register the car I would be forever grateful.
Thank you for your help in advance!
Kind regards
