I reside overseas, and prior to me leaving I had my licence renewed, knowing it would be a daunting task to try and do anything from here. My handbag unfortunately got stolen, which no

Re:Licences to South Africans Abroad - 2008/07/01 01:50 Again this reflects to me the absolute "no help" attitude of South African government organisations, there is only that whole black and white view of things, but unfortunately like we all know "grey areas" do exist but of course having a contingency plan is merely a sign of foresight, which e-natis, the department of transport, etc doesn't have.

Re:Licences to South Africans Abroad - 2008/07/01 01:56 How does this sound like a plan?

1. The South African embassy decides on an optician that is qualified enough to do the eye test abroad
2. They have arrangements with the local police services to have fingerprints done
3. they submit everything, and send off the new licence, which can be collected from the consulate.

Or hey, how about...

If the licence is stated to be valid for another 3 years, the eye test, and the fingerprints should still remain valid, considering the licence has not yet expired, and thus would have been ok anyways, so therefore eissuing a new one for the period left on it until further notice.

Or hey how about a temporary licence...

Like I said in my last post...

FORESIGHT OR INITIAVE IS JUST SOMETHING THAT SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE?

What I meant, is that your message appeared on the forum twice. I gave an answer to the other message. The Department of Foreign Affairs did not want to get involved in driving licence administration when procedures similar to your idea were proposed.
