Confirmation Letter from RTMC? - 2008/06/17 19:45 My drivers licence expired in 2006 and now live in the UK. Financially, I have not been in the position to return to South Africa to get it renewed and won't be able to do so for a while yet.
I read on here that you can get a Confirmation Letter from the RTMC as proof I have a valid licence which will enable me to convert to the UK licence.
Is this the case?
Is there a form to fill out to send to the RTMC for this or will an open letter do?

Please use http://www.enatis.com/index.php?option=com_contact&task=view&contact_id=40&Itemid=3 to submit your request. Include your SA ID number and a postal address for the delivery of the letter. I am not sure whether the UK still accepts these letters.

I am in a similar position: I'm living in the USA and have been offered a job that starts in 2 weeks. I went to the Dept. of Transport (DMV) in GA, USA to obtain a license. I was told to hand in my SA license. But I could not find it in my purse! I have turned my house upside down and no luck. This has never happened to me before!
The DMV here said that I will need a letter of verification from SA that states I do have a valid driver's lisence, what my SA driving history is and that the letter has been issued because I lost my driver's card (not that my license was revoked). I read your thread and sent an e-mail to the address that Roelof posted in addition to 2 others on Monday. It is Wednesday now and I have heard nothing.
I am a little worried because time is ticking for me.
Roelof, is the Department of Transport in SA familiar with this type of letter? How does it get sent to me? And most importantly: how long does it usually take?
