How to book a driving licence test - 2007/07/18 20:32
How to get your drivers licence in the new South Africa
1.first of all, you'll sit on the phone about 8 hours a day, dialing over and over to get through, being put on hold and then cut off.
2.An apologetic voice will answer the phone, explaining that they can't help you as they are offline.
they take your details and promise to phone back. eventually a few days later someone phones you, telling you they are online now. and now you may phone them to book. no, he can't take your booking as he is not allowed to. please phone the call centre. !!!
Or
3.At the odd chance of them being online, you then spend about 20 minutes going through your whole life history with the 'friendly' call agent on the other side.
After playing a game of twenty questions to establish if you are really making this appointment for yourself, you will be asked to provide your id number and proof of residence as you have to go to a test center in your area,(i was told to hold while he writes this down - i thought they were using computers!) and only then will they take a look to see if there are any appointments available.
4.you will be put on hold for 30 - 40 minutes listening to crappy music while they try to access the eNatis system. then you will either be put on hold for longer, cut off or eventually be told that there is nothing available at this moment and that you must please call back.
*** Repeat steps 1-4 as many times as you have the patience for ***
When I asked one of the agents whether he managed to give ANYONE an appointment, he answered that maybe 1 or two people a day, some days none. Now that is 200 call centre agents taking thousands of calls a day. you do the math.
When asked what i should do, i was told to try test centres outside of gauteng as they are not as busy (out the window goes the rule of having to provide proof of residence and test at a local test centre).
The call centre agent told me that no, they cannot see how far in the future they are booked, they only get random messages appearing on their pc's that show when an appointment is available.
he also couldn't tell me what time of day or what days are better to phone, as there is no time of day that their systems get updated. its all random.
So I was put on a waiting list, for centurion, about 2 months ago. I am still waiting for an appointment. When i try to phone the call centre to find out if they have anything available, I am told that they cannot check for me unless I am taken off the waiting list!!
So, I phoned test centres outside of Pta/jhb.(Phone bill at this point +_R400) Groblersdal told me that they cannot tell me over the phone if they have anything available - I have to drive an hour or two there, stand in the queue and MAYBE get an appointment.
Rustenburg was booked full until 23rd October (funny how they can see how far ahead they are booked but the callcentre people can't) and that i must phone then.
At Potgietersrus,Vanderbijlpar, Cullinan and Thabazimbi, no one answers their phones.
Bronkhorstspruit told me to go through the call centre. And Brits also said they do not make appointments over the phone.
So my only chance is to take a day off work (costing me +_R300 loss in salary), drive miles to another city (petrol & tollgate money +_R300) and hopefully get an appointment.
And then take off another day off work (costing me another +_R300 loss in salary), drive there again (petrol & tollgate money +_R300) do the test and in all probability be failed.
START ALL OVER AGAIN (Total cost sofar R1600)
NO WONDER PEOPLE RATHER BUY LICENCES IT IS MUCH LESS HASSLE AND CHEAPER THAN GOING THROUGH ALL THIS!
