Fraudulent Address - 2008/08/25 19:47 For a few years now we've been receiving traffic license renewals and traffic fines for someone else. We advised the traffic department and received zero response.
We established the owners correct address and provided the traffic department with the particulars and received zero response. We sent letters and gave copies to senior people within the department and received zero response...

Neither we (the home owners) nor the traffic department could make the changes without the written consent of the vehicle owner...(duh?). Eventually we "gave up, and started ignoring the postage that was clearly not ours. We forgot about the whole futile exercise until recently when another document started arriving in our letterbox. A license renewal notification for a VW Jetta CA559888 registered to our address has arrived in the letter box.

Now when I go and register my new vehicle I need proof of my residential address
(rates account or whatever) yet any Tom, Dick or Harry anywhere else can register their vehicle at my address and there's NOTHING I can do about it...? The traffic department won't do anything and I cannot change that vehicle owner's info.

How stupid is this....?

Re:Fraudulent Address - 2008/08/28 07:27 I mark all mail that I receive and it does not have my name on, Return to Sender and dump it on the post office to sort out. If the same name appears the third time, I just throw it away, it's not mine.
Not all authorities require proof of address. In my opinion, proof of address is only a proper requirement if it changes. I think that you will not even be allowed to see your own address on the system ...
