In the first six months of 2008 more than 75 million transactions were performed on the National Traffic Information System (eNaTIS) – 75,422,095 to be exact. With the exception of routine maintenance outside of business hours downtime was virtually non-existent in the first half of the year and phenomenal system processing time was experienced: the eNaTIS processed 96% of all transactions in less than two seconds, 99,8% in less than 10 seconds and 99,95% in less than 60 seconds.

 

In June 2008, yet another month in which 100% uptime was experienced, the system processed 11,827,142 transactions. Compared to the preceding month, significant volume increases were experienced with regard to vehicle licensing transactions, which increased by 4.77%, and reports executed, which increased by 9.37%. The busiest day was Tuesday, 03 June when 622,548 transactions were performed on the system.

The full breakdown of the transactions performed during June 2008 is as follows: 66,325 learner’s licence authorisations, 181,206 driving licence card orders, 64,358  vehicle record introductions, 244,806 vehicle registrations and 814,919 vehicle licensing transactions. In addition, 104,901 reports were executed on the system. These reports are utilised for, among others, financial reconciliations and audits.

3,428,300 transactions were performed on other computer systems that have interfaces to the eNaTIS (such as those of the South African Police Service, vehicle manufacturers, banks and insurance companies), while users of the eNaTIS application at registering authorities, testing stations and provincial authorities performed 8,398,842 transactions.

The Johannesburg service centre once again performed the most transactions (687,731) followed by the City of Cape Town (548,463), Pretoria (538,575), Durban (301,791) and Port Elizabeth (167,647).

With 124,603 transactions Toyota SA was the most active non-governmental entity using a system-to-system interface with the eNaTIS, followed by Mercedes-Benz of SA (59,102), BMW SA (56,839), Volkswagen of SA (54,683), and TransUnion HPI (38,923).
