Summary of Statistics for May 2009

Although the National Traffic Information System (eNaTIS) recorded a month-on-month increase of 23.03% in vehicle introductions in May 2009 (40 644 vehicle introductions compared to 33 035 in April 2009), new vehicle registrations across all categories (statistics available here) dropped by 40.26% compared to May 2008. Used vehicle registrations (statistics available here) remained virtually constant, with 0.74% more registrations in May 2009 than there were in May 2008.

Returning to the general picture, the eNaTIS recorded a total of 13 740 792 transactions in May 2009, representing an overall increase of 3.71% compared to the previous month. Significant year-on-year growth was experienced in reports executed* (up by 11.38%) and learner’s licence authorisations (up by 10.85%).

The Johannesburg service centre once again performed the most transactions (742 695) followed by Ekurhuleni (664 018), Pretoria (629 712), the City of Cape Town (576 879) and Durban (314 524).

With 50 502 transactions BMW SA was the most active non-governmental entity using a system-to-system interface with the eNaTIS, followed by Mercedes-Benz of SA (38 439), First National Bank (32 960), Volkswagen of SA (29 413) and Toyota SA (22 850).
