Summary of Statistics for March 2008

dlcsmall2 As expected, the elevated demand for driving licence card orders experienced since December last year has abated (for more information on the reasons for the spike in demand, click here). During March 2008, 201,629 such transactions were recorded on the National Traffic Information System (eNaTIS) as opposed to 254,890 in February 2008 and 232,122 in January 2008.

March also saw an overall transaction volume reduction of 6.26% from the previous month, which can be ascribed to the above-mentioned drop in demand and the fact that there were fewer business days as a result of the Easter long weekend.

In total, 11,832,448 transactions were recorded during March 2008. The breakdown of the transactions performed during March is as follows: 69,908 learner’s licence authorisations, 201,629 driving licence card orders, 65,452 vehicle record introductions, 252,374 vehicle registrations and 746,543 vehicle licensing transactions. In addition, 90,718 reports were executed on the system. These reports are utilised for, among others, financial reconciliations and audits.

System uptime was once again 100%, although some external users experienced connectivity problems due to Telkom line issues.

Daily transaction volumes exceeded the 600,000 mark on five occasions during the month, with 28 March being the busiest day (636,671 transactions performed).

3,594,177 transactions were performed on other computer systems that have interfaces to the eNaTIS (such as those of the South African Police Service, vehicle manufacturers, banks and insurance companies), while users of the eNaTIS application at registering authorities, testing stations and provincial authorities performed 8,238,271 transactions.

The Johannesburg service centre once again performed the most transactions (664,357) followed by the City of Cape Town (506,769), Pretoria (460,156), Durban (258,388) and Germiston (158,569).

With 69,817 transactions Mercedes-Benz SA was once again the most active non-governmental entity using a system-to-system interface with the eNaTIS, followed by BMW SA (53,579), the Delta Motor Corporation (47,266), Volkswagen SA (46,036) and Toyota SA (42,277).
