Transport officials say the troublesome eNatis system that was implemented almost a year ago is now doing up to 600 000 transactions per day.

The computer-based system was installed at licensing departments across the country to help reduce the backlog of drivers licence bookings and renewals.

eNatis project manager Werner Koekemoer says they've recorded more than 13-million transactions in January, despite ongoing power outages.

But many South Africans still complain about long queues and poor service delivery at licensing centres.

Koekemoer says this doesn't have anything to do with eNatis or its capability.
