Following the effect of the municipal strike at the end of July 2009, eNaTIS transaction volumes normalised during August and two new record totals were recorded as a result of the overflow from the preceding month: 63 726 vehicle licensing transactions were recorded on 04 August, and 589 420 user transactions on the same date.

The total transaction count rose by 1.06% in August 2009 as compared to the previous month, and by 14.76% compared to August 2008.
 
New vehicle registrations remained more or less constant compared to July with a month-on-month decrease of 0.15% and showed a year-on year decrease of 20.98%. Used vehicle registrations increased by 6% month-on-month and 18.54% year-on-year.
 
South Africa’s live vehicle population now stands at 9 506 138.
 
The Johannesburg user group performed the most transactions (886 032) followed by Ekurhuleni (770 347), Pretoria (724 006), the City of Cape Town (591 329) and Durban (325 444).
 
With 128 214 transactions First National Bank was the most active non-government entity using a system-to-system interface, followed by Mercedes-Benz of SA (44 238), Volkswagen of SA (411 55), BMW SA (40 793) and TransUnion HPI (38 347).
