ppp_ibusi_clp_handtyping_cLearner’s licence authorisations on the National Traffic Information System (eNaTIS) peaked on 11 December 2007 when 5,153 such transactions were recorded – the highest number for a single day since the inception of the system and considerably higher than the previous single-day high of 3,680 recorded during the previous month. New single-day records were also set for vehicle licensing transactions (58,717 on 18 December) and user transactions (488,629 on 18 December). The latter transactions are performed directly at registering authorities, testing stations and provincial authorities (as opposed to the transactions performed on computer systems with interfaces to the eNaTIS). System performance was uninterrupted and the eNaTIS was once again fully available during business hours.
A total number of 10,467,175 transactions were recorded during December. The month-on-month decrease of 18.49% compared to November (when 10,467,175 transactions were recorded) reflects the considerable drop in demand traditionally experienced during the festive season. However, demand picked up immediately after the holidays with a total of 523,729 transactions recorded on 02 January 2008.

The breakdown of the transactions performed during December is as follows: 51,092 learner’s licence authorisations, 135,479 driving licence card orders, 57,919 vehicle record introductions, 200,415 vehicle registrations and 790,336 vehicle licensing transactions. In addition, 71,677 reports were executed on the system. These reports are utilised for, among others, financial reconciliations and audits.

A total number of 3,550,914 transactions were performed on other computer systems that have interfaces to the eNaTIS (such as those of the South African Police Service, vehicle manufacturers, banks and insurance companies), while users of the eNaTIS application (at registering authorities, testing stations and provincial authorities) performed 6,916,261 transactions.

The Johannesburg user group once again performed the most transactions (658,407) followed by the City of Cape Town (559,576), Pretoria (400,341), Durban (264,140) and Port Elizabeth (159,019).

With 279,057 transactions BMW SA was the most active non-governmental entity using a system-to-system interface with the eNaTIS, followed by Mercedes-Benz SA (47,443), Toyota SA (47,198), Volkswagen SA (38,744) and TransUnion HPI (28,296).
