During October 2009, 16 708 459 transactions were performed on the National Traffic Information System (eNaTIS) – the highest number for a single month since the system’s inception in April 2007. The system dealt effortlessly with the massive demand and processed 96.5% of all transactions in less than two seconds. As has been the case since launch, excellent stability and uptime were maintained.

ppp_ibusc_clp_empty_road_s_99.pngOctober is traditionally one of the busiest months of the year and significant month-on-month increases were experienced in all the major transaction categories.

Friday, 30 October was the busiest day with 804 353 transactions recorded on the system, and an average of 700 651 transactions were performed each weekday.

Compared to September 2009 new vehicle registrations increased by slightly more than 2% in October (from 42 079 to 43 010), while used vehicle registrations increased by 4% (from 123 817 to 129 052).

South Africa’s live vehicle population now stands at 9 558 105.

The Johannesburg user group performed the most transactions on the eNaTIS (900 426) followed by Ekurhuleni (756 170), Pretoria (755 938), the City of Cape Town (607 904) and Durban (350 804).

With 148 487 transactions First National Bank was the most active non-government entity using a system-to-system interface, followed by Mercedes-Benz of SA (51 727), BMW SA (45 389), TransUnion HPI (39 607) and Volkswagen of SA (34 860).
