In keeping with the slump in sales reported by the vehicle industry, the National Traffic Information System (eNaTIS) recorded a year-on-year decrease of 42.4% in terms of vehicle introductions in February 2009 (39 613 introductions compared to 68 775 in February 2008). Vehicle introductions also fell by a significant 5.7% compared to January 2009.

ppp_ifina_clp_totally_broke_s_99.pngNew vehicle registrations for February 2009 (full statistics available here ) display the same trend, with significant year-on-year decreases across all vehicle categories. During February used vehicle registrations (full statistics available here ) also decreased compared to the same period last year, although less markedly so than in the case of new vehicles.

 A total of 12 622 524 transactions were performed on the eNaTIS during February, and daily totals in excess of 600 000 transactions were recorded on 13 occasions. Friday, 27 February was the busiest day with 823 863 transactions being recorded nationally.

The  70 513 learner’s licence authorisations recorded in February 2009 represent an increase of 13.27% compared to January 2009. The February figures for the other main transaction categories are as follows: 156 430 driving licence card authorisations, 239 458 vehicle registration transactions, 862 862 vehicle licensing transactions and 151 759 reports* executed.

User transactions** totalled 9 372 033, and interface transactions*** 3 988 896.

The Johannesburg service centre once again performed the most transactions (659 740) followed by Pretoria (615 186) the City of Cape Town (570 236), Durban (321 847) and Kempton Park (163 328).

With 47 471 transactions Mercedes-Benz of SA was the most active non-governmental entity using a system-to-system interface with the eNaTIS, followed by Kawasaki Motors SA (34 909), TransUnion HPI (34 131), Volkswagen of SA (31 952) and BMW SA (28 029).
