A staggering 177 276 032 transactions were performed on the National Traffic Information System in 2009. This represents an increase of 12.67 % compared to 2008 (157 340 912 transactions). The system handled the workload without breaking a sweat, and excellent transaction speeds were maintained as was virtually 100% system uptime during business hours.

ppp_ifina_clp_calculator_gold_s_99.pngSystem uptime notwithstanding, line connectivity issues remain a fact of life and members of the public are encouraged to visit the ‘Service centre status’ section on our public information website, www.enatis.com, as well as our on-the-fly updates on Facebook and Twitter for current information on which centres are experiencing such problems.

In total, 433 399 043 transactions have been performed on the system since its first fully month of operation (May 2007) up to the end of December 2009.

Compared to the preceding year, new vehicle registrations fell by 29.57% in 2009 (463 125 down from 657 529), while used vehicle registrations remained more or less static with a negligible increase of 0.35% (1 397 137 up from 1 392 227).

At the end of December 2009, South Africa’s live vehicle population stood at 9 587 781, an increase of 3.04% compared to the previous year.
