Across-the-board gains for eNaTIS in January |

Following the festive hiatus traditionally experienced during December each year, National Traffic Information System (eNaTIS) transaction volumes showed major increases in virtually all of the main transaction categories during January 2010. The total number of transactions rose from 14 877 821 in December 2009 to 16 146 480 in January 2010, an increase of 8,53%.
The most notable increases were experienced in vehicle introductions (up by 46,37%), vehicle registrations (up by 18,53%), learner’s licence authorisations (up by 14,51%) and driving licence card authorisations (up by 10,41%).
Performing 785 051 transactions, Johannesburg was the most active user group, followed by Pretoria (715 645), Ekurhuleni (666 406), Cape Town (614 055) and Durban (327 629).
The most active non-government entity accessing the eNaTIS was First National Bank with 126 348 transactions, followed by General Motors (51 185), Volkswagen (45 164), BMW (44 123) and Mercedes-Benz (43 114).
There were 64 034 new vehicle registrations in January 2010 (up by 5.15% compared to January 2009) and 114 330 used vehicle registrations (up by 3.15% compared to January 2009).
At the end of January 2010 South Africa’s live vehicle population stood at 9 628 758.
